On September 20th, EU-LI-PHE sponsored a specialized event on livestock genetics and breeding innovations, held at the Department of Genetics and Breeding of Farm Animals at the Institute of Animal Science, Prague, Czech Republic. Organized by Dr. Ludmila Zavadilová and Dr. Emil Krupa, both members of the EU-LI-PHE network, the event brought together leading researchers to discuss the latest advancements in livestock phenomics and genetics.
Dr. Adna Ašić, Science Communication Coordinator for EU-LI-PHE, delivered a presentation on the role of phenomics in livestock sector, thus introducing the attendees with the structure, organization and aims of our COST Action. Dr. Ludmila Zavadilová presented on the use of modern technologies, including infrared spectroscopy, for mining valuable data in livestock breeding. Dr. Emil Krupa gave an insightful talk on the comprehensive processing of data obtained from recording systems and its practical applications in livestock management. Their presentations highlighted the vital role of cutting-edge data analytics in improving livestock health and productivity.

The event included a variety of expert talks on topics such as methane emissions prediction using milk mid-infrared spectra and the harmonization of health event records in cattle farms. Lively discussions followed, particularly around the impact of phenomics on environmental sustainability and genetic selection and future spread of EU-LI-PHE impact in Czech Republic and neighboring Slovakia.
EU-LI-PHE’s sponsorship of this event reflects its commitment to promoting innovation and sustainable practices in livestock breeding across Europe.
