Prof. Tomas Norton, EU-LI-PHE Vice Chair and Professor at KU Leuven, delivered an insightful talk at the 6th CIGR (International Commission of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering) Conference in Jeju, Republic of Korea, on May 20th.

Prof. Norton talked about the crucial role of acquiring accurate animal phenotypes in modern livestock farming. This is key for optimizing breeding strategies, disease control, and animal welfare. His talk highlighted the exciting opportunities for the agricultural engineering community to develop automated solutions for continuous and objective animal measurement. By bringing together Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) and Animal Breeding, we can significantly enhance the sustainability of animal production.

In addition, Prof. Norton introduced international audience to EU-LI-PHE, as a platform dedicated to advancing phenotyping technologies, integrating genome-to-phenome methods, enhancing data analysis, navigating regulatory frameworks, and training the next generation of researchers, with the final aim to transform the field of livestock phenomics.
